Full Bio:

The music of Jack Frederick (b. 2006) explores the intersections of environmental scenes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the modern classical tradition, often engaging with performers across disciplines to create work that is both a call to action, as well as artistic. 

His 2026 season includes an orchestral premiere by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, a premiere as a result of a collaboration with the Bergamot Quartet through ALN’s Creative Music Intensive, multiple premieres as a part of the Bled Contemporary Music Festival, the premiere of 2 art songs at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Nimoy Thalia Theater in NYC, as well as New England Conservatory, the performance of his saxophone etude book, “Trichord Studies” at the SCI Region IV Conference, and a performance resulting from a commission from the Rivers School Conservatory. Other recent collaborations include the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle’s Durham Fellows, the Calandra Quartet, Arneis Quartet, the infra.norma.meta and the precept.concept.percept new music ensembles, Iwona Glinka, Trio Kanon, Phillip Staüdlin

In 2025/26, Frederick was selected to receive a performance with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, as well as being named a finalist in the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle’s Music Madness Competition. He was named a winner of the CWU New Music Festival Call for Scores, as well as selected to participate in BoCo’s songSLAM and the 10th NYC songSLAM. He was named a winner of the call for scores for SCI’s Region IV conference, as well as being invited as a resident at the Bled Contemporary New Music Festival in Bled, Slovenia.

Since beginning his studies at the New England Conservatory with Michael Gandolfi in 2024, he has thrice been named a fellow of the school’s Entrepreneurial Musicianship departments and was selected as a winner of the Honors Ensemble Composition Competition.

Frederick is currently a co-director of NEC’s new music series, Tuesday Night New Music.

Frederick’s formative training includes a year at Interlochen Arts Academy, where he composed for a wide range of ensembles, studied with Dr. Cynthia Van Maanen, and performed as Tenor Saxophone 1 in both the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra. Masterclasses participated in include: The Imani Winds, Joan Tower, Patrice Rushen, Bill Banfield, and others. He attended the Brevard Music Festival in 2023, working with Dr. Robert Aldridge, Dr. David Dzubay, and Dr. Greg Simon, composing works for solo piano, saxophone quartet, and symphonic band.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Frederick’s artistic development has been shaped by a dedication to collaboration, and a curiosity for diverse musical traditions such as Old-time mountain music.
