I - Break: This etude is a study of the saxophone’s 'break'—the half-step shift from C# to D, where the player moves from an open fingering to a closed one. For a successful performance, the player must carefully navigate the break, ensuring both notes resonate equally on either side.

II - Cycle: This etude focuses on harmonic development. For a successful performance, the player must bring this development to life through careful dynamic shifts and precise articulations.

III - Scalar: This etude involves quick, scalar movements, ascending through Messiaen’s 5th mode of limited transposition. For a successful performance, the player must maintain even runs, a consistent tempo, and smooth development throughout.
